Gordon Cherry #6009755. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.811189). Das Rheingold is the introductory work from Wagner's monumental Ring Cycle. In it, many of the most important leitmotifs from the Cycle are first heard. Randall Malmstrom's wonderful arrangement of Excerpts from Das Rheingold for 8-part Trombone Ensemble presents a number of the most famous of these leitmotifs heard in the original low brass parts from the opera, including the famous Finale. This 5-minute arrangement is appropriate for advanced performers.

The primary source for the edition of Rheingold in the complete edition was the first print of the score (E) which was published by Schott's Sohne, Mainz in 1873. Unfortunately, the source which would have been of greatest significance for revision purposes could not be utilised in the preparation of this edition. Wagner's autograph fair copy of the score which was included in Ludwig II's estate fell into the hands of Adolf Hitler in 1939 and has never been seen again since 1945. For this reason, it was necessary to make frequent reference to both the so-called compositional sketch (KS) and the first draft of the score (PE). For any questionable interpretations of E in the principle text, the variants in KS and PE have been added in small print or footnotes. This also applies to additional markings and alterations undertaken by Wagner during rehearsals for the first performances in 1876 which were recorded by his assistants, principally by Heinrich Porges. These variants are marked with the sign [1876]. Remarks in quotation marks reproduce Wagner's original comments. At certain points, reference has also been made to the records by Felix Mottl who was also present at the rehearsals and performances in 1876. Further relevant information can be found in the volumes of the complete edition." (Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword of the new Rheingold vocal score. translation by Lindsay Chalmers-Gerbracht)

Ring of the Nibelung compilation of Excerpts for Low Brass
Large Ensemble Bass Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792335
(+)
Large Ensemble Bass Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.792335 Composed by Richard Wagner. Arranged by Fissel, Stephen. 20th Century,Opera,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 129 pages. Gordon Cherry #4804647. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792335). This collection of orchestral excerpts from Der Ring des Nibelungen by Stephen Fissel represents some of the major portions of this great music that Richard Wagner composed for low brass. The selection of these excerpts comes from Mr. Fissel's own experience in preparing and performing the Ring Cycle with Seattle Opera. In conjunction with Ring performances in Seattle, he and his colleagues would often rehearse these sections and present them in a concert along with commentary to explain their importance, either elucidating a musical aspect or an element of plot narrative, or from the standpoint of the development of the low brass instruments of the orchestra. For the serious orchestral low brass performer, Mr. Fissel's compilation is a wonderful way to experience the highlights of Wagner's operatic genius embodied in the four Ring Cycle operas: Das Rheingold, Die Walkyrie, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung. There are 22 major excerpts from the four operas for Bass Trumpet (part supplied for original keys and transposed version in C or may be played by a Tenor Trombone), 2 Tenor Trombones, Bass Trombone, Contrabass Trombone (can be performed on a Bass Trombone as well), Tuba and a coil bound full score. Included in the 22 excerpt Fissel compilation are the following famous excerpts: Ride of the Walkyrie, Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla, Wotan's Farewell, Dragon Scene from Siegfried, Siegfried's Rhine Journey, Siegfried's Funeral Music and Walhalla, Spear and Immolation Scene (finale).

German. An important addition to the newly produced orchestral materials by Schott Music is the fi rst publication of vocal scores of Richard Wagnerâs ten great operas in every important version. For the first time, we are able to offer theatres and interested opera-lovers vocal scores as urtext editions conceived following uniform editorial criteria: * The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition. * For practical use in rehearsal and study, every vocal score includes rehearsal cues and bar numbers throughout. * The publisher has secured the services of renowned musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords. * The forewords are given in three languages (German, English, French). * Uniform and attractive front cover designs with reproductions of paintings from the Wagner era underline the series design of the edition. TRISTAN UND ISOLDE Performance directions by the singer Ludwig Schnorr von Carolsfeld are incorporated in the vocal score from the Complete Editionâs Tristan und Isolde volume. He entered these directions into his own copy of the Tristan part which he used at the 1865 Munich premiere. Richard Wagner was deeply impressed by his interpretation of the title role. For the first time in a vocal score of Tristan und Isolde all cuts are incorporatedâwith the corresponding transitional barsâwhich Wagner himself made, and approved, in two cases, were actually declared by him to be final. These cuts strikingly document Wagnerâs struggle with the final form of the work. For the first time in a single edition all of Wagnerâs own suggestions for ossias are found; ossias which evolved from performances under his own direction. Egon Voss writes about this in his foreword to the vocal score: âSuch âpointersâ, as you might say, were current practice in the 19th century which Wagner, as the example shows, did not evade. He was enough of a practical man of the theatre to know that a badly sung top note is worse than doing without it. Wagner even tolerated the transposition of lengthier passages because he was less concerned with the letter of the score than with theatrical effectiveness. [...] The present vocal score goes beyond the Complete Edition [...] in that the ossias mentioned above are indicated in the vocal part itself, in small notes. They concern principally the role of Tristan, but also those of Isolde, Brangäne and Kurwenal. They rest in part on the Tristan edition within the Complete Edition but for the greater part go back to a source which could not be consulted for the Complete Edition because it was not yet accessible. This relates to a vocal score from the estate of the composer Peter Cornelius who was engaged by Wagner as repetiteur at the Vienna rehearsals in 1861-63. That the ossia bars go back to Wagner can be taken as certain, since in some places they are notated in his own hand.â (Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword to the vocal score) The transpositions mentioned by Egon Vossâtwo by Hans von Bülow for the revival of the work which he conducted in Munich in 1869 and the third suggested by Wagner himself in 1861âare printed in the appendix to the vocal score. The ossias, transpositions, and cuts are available for practical use in the theatre and in rehearsal. The cuts are also incorporated into the orchestral materials for Tristan und Isolde. This is also the case with ossias which affect the orchestral parts.2013 marks Wagnerâs bicentenary, making the year largely focused on his music, particularly the dramatic works. An important addition to the newly produced orchestral materials by Schott Music. The score corresponds to the performance materials from the Complete Edition. Schott Music have secured the services of renowned musicologists associated with the Richard Wagner Complete Edition who convey detailed information in critical forewords. For the first time, this work is available to theatres and interested opera-lovers as urtext editions. Brass Ensemble Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.839015 Composed by Christoph Willibald Von Gluck. Arranged by Kenneth Martin. Classical,Concert. Score and parts. 11 pages. Martin Music Editions #5214105. Published by Martin Music Editions (A0.839015). Orfeo ed Euridice (French: Orphée et Eurydice; English: Orpheus and Eurydice) is an opera composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, based on the myth of Orpheus and set to a libretto by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. It belongs to the genre of the azione teatrale, meaning an opera on a mythological subject with choruses and dancing. The piece was first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 5 October 1762, in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama. The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas. Variations on its plot-the underground rescue-mission in which the hero must control, or conceal, his emotions-can be found in Mozart's The Magic Flute, Beethoven's Fidelio, and Wagner's Das Rheingold. Though originally set to an Italian libretto, Orfeo ed Euridice owes much to the genre of French opera, particularly in its use of accompanied recitative and a general absence of vocal virtuosity. Indeed, twelve years after the 1762 premiere, Gluck re-adapted the opera to suit the tastes of a Parisian audience at the Académie Royale de Musique with a libretto by Pierre-Louis Moline. This reworking was given the title Orphée et Eurydice, and several alterations were made in vocal casting and orchestration to suit French tastes.

The beginning of the history of the origins of the tetralogy is frequently placed in 1848 when Wagner compiled a prose sketch entitled Die Nibelungensage (Erstschrift) [The Nibelung Saga (first draft)] or Die Sage von den Nibelungen (Reinschrift) [The Saga of the Niblelungs (fair copy)] which would suggest that this was already the text for the Ring des Nibelungen, but the actual concept for the tetralogy did not actually evolve until the autumn of 1851. When Wagner first compiled the libretto for the heroic opera Siegfried's Tod [Siegfried's Death] in November 1848 - during his period of employment as Hofkapellmeister[court music director] in Dresden - he was in fact only planning a single opera and continued to adhere to this concept even after his involvement in the failed Dresden uprising in 1849 and subsequent escape to Switzerland. He began with the composition of Siegfried's Tod in the summer of 1850 in Zurich, but soon laid it aside. He returned to the project almost a year later in May 1851 with the idea of a two-part drama: to lend the plot greater conclusiveness, Siegfried's Tod would be preceded by a second opera entitled Der junge Siegfried [The Young Siegfried], subsequently shortened to Siegfried, but this extension was still insufficient to satisfy Wagner's dramatic-dramaturgic aspirations. In November 1851, he began the first text drafts for Das Rheingold and Die Walkure which were followed by the libretti in 1852: Die Walkure was completed in June 1852.<br> <br> The premiere of Die Walkure was held in Munich on 26 June 1870, but without Wagner's specific permission as he did not wish the operas to be performed separately. He held the opinion that Die Walkure was only logical and comprehendible within the context of the complete tetralogy. Wagner had however not only made a present of the autograph score to King Ludwig II of Bavaria who had been his generous benefactor since 1864, but had also sold him the rights to the tetralogy. The king was eager to experience performances of the already finished parts and Wagner was therefore powerless to prevent him from commanding performances of the individual operas. The premiere of Die Walkure within the context of the tetralogy took place in 1876 at the first Bayreuth Festival.<br> <br> (Egon Voss, quoted from the foreword of the new Die Walkure vocal score. translated by Lindsay Chalmers-Gerbracht)

[Richard Wagner, Complete Works]). The first printed edition of the score was published by B. Schotts Söhne, Mainz (plate number 21953) in the summer of 1876, but was supervised by the conductor Hermann Levi and not by Wagner himself. This edition displays deviations from the autograph which cannot be considered as adhering to Wagners intentions. For this reason, the critical edition is largely based on Wagners autograph score.
